Leading by a point late in the 3rd quarter, Rockford scored 12 straight points and went on to beat Unity Christian 55-45 in game 3 of The Invite.
“I thought we played great, poised, Rams sophomore guard Eli Wolfe said. “We knew we were getting ourselves into a dog fight, and I thought we handled ourselves well tonight in the game.”
Wolfe scored 12 of his game-high 18 points in the first half as the Rams jumped out to a 33-26 lead at the break. An 8-0 Saders run pulled them within a point at 35-34 in the 3rd quarter.
Jake Bascom scored 16 for Rockford (4-0).
Owen VanderWaal led Unity Christian (3-1) with 14 points.
The Rams played their 3rd straigth game without sophomore Josh Bascom who is out with an injury.
Grand Rapids Christian 75, West Ottawa 55
Grand Rapids Christian found itself down 10-0 early Saturday in game 2 of The Invite at Calvin University, but the Eagles dug out of the early hole to beat West Ottawa 75-55.
“I think we just weren’t as focused early,” PowerStrength Player of the Game Carl Thompson said. “Everybody got on the same page, and we focused on our defense. Defending is how we got back in the game.”
Thompson scored a game-high 27 points, and Braylon Taylor added 15 for GR Christian (2-2) who rallied to lead 15-14 after the 1st quarter.
Makai Campos led the Panthers (3-1) with 15 points, Quentin Edwards added 14.
Grandville 59, Holland Christian 52
Trailing by 4 points late in the 3rd quarter against Holland Christian, Grandville closed the period on an 11-0 run and never looked back in a 59-52 win Saturday in the first game of The Invite at Calvin University.
Junior point guard Carter Wade led the Bulldogs with 19 points and was named the PowerStrength Player of the Game.
“It was a great defensive effort,” Wade said. “We’ve been scouting this team for a while. We knew what they wanted to do, and we just used team defense to win the game.
Senior guard Titus Spencer led the Maroons (1-3) with a game-high 28 points.
Freshman Heyden Jeremie scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to help Grandville (3-0)
