Game Recap: Rockford beats Northview in Showdown at The Invite:
Rockford used a balance scoring attack to knock off Northview 57-49 in battle of the 2 of the best boys basketball teams in the state on Saturday night at Calvin University.
Mikey DeKuiper led the Rams (4-0) with 14 points, Dylan Gross added 12, Jake Bascom chipped in 8 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 blocked shots, and was named the PowerStrength Player of the Game.
Cam Ryans led the Wildcats (2-1) with 22 points and 10 rebounds.
Game Recap: Byron Center holds off South Christian in game 3 of The Invite:
Byron Center built a big 3rd quarter lead against South Christian, and held off a late Sailors run to win 63-57 at Calvin University on Saturday.
The Bulldogs led by 12 at the half (31-19), but South got it as close to 3 late in the 4th quarter.
Keane Hinkle scored 22 points and was named the PowerStrength player of the game. Isaac Lee added 10 points playing in his first game of the season after leading the football team to the division 2 state championship game. Jaden Bowman scored 10 points for Byron Center (3-1).
South Christian (1-3) was led by Davis Kemper who scored 22 points, Carson Vis who tallied 21.
Game Recap: Unity Christian goes to Overtime, Again, to Beat Grand Rapids Catholic Central
A night after beating South Christian in in overtime, Unity Christian needed an extra four minutes again to top Grand Rapids Catholic Central, 53-49, in Game 2 of The Invite.
Brogan Sherd scored all 15 of his points after halftime, including 5 big ones in OT and was named the PowerStrength player of the game.
The Saders. (5-0) led 14-13 after one quarter, but the game was tied at halftime (24-24), tied after 3 quarters (34-34), and at the end of regulation (45-45).
Jackson Kamminga scored 12 points for Unity, Zay Larthridge led the Cougars (3-2) with 17 points.
Game Recap: Grand Haven Bucs Topple GR Christian in The Invite Opener
In the opening game of The Invite at Calvin University, the Grand Haven Bucs delivered a commanding performance, defeating Grand Rapids Christian 78-61.
The game began as a tightly contested battle, tied at 6-6 midway through the first quarter. Grand Haven then erupted with a decisive 15-2 run to establish a double-digit lead, ending the first quarter ahead 23-13.
The Bucs carried their momentum into the second quarter, outscoring GR Christian to extend their advantage to 42-29 by halftime.
GR Christian showed resilience in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 44-38 with just under four minutes remaining. However, Grand Haven answered with a strong finish, closing the quarter with a 57-44 lead.
The fourth quarter saw the Bucs maintain control, thwarting any comeback attempts by GR Christian and securing the victory.
Kaden Strong led the way for Grand Haven with 24 points, while teammates Will Plummer and Will Korenstra chipped in 12 points each. On the other side, Carl Thompson paced the Eagles with an impressive 22-point effort.
With the win, Grand Haven improves to 3-1 on the season, while GR Christian falls to 3-1. The Bucs’ strong start and balanced scoring proved to be the difference in this early-season clash.
