Jason and Amy Jipping are redefining what it means to prioritize health, fitness, and connection.
This husband-and-wife duo train together in PowerStrength’s Personal Training Program – specifically designed for people in their 40s, 50s, and 60s.
Their journey is one of transformation, growth, and teamwork.
Amy initially joined PowerStrength inspired by a friend’s success.
“One of my friends had lost a bunch of weight, and she really liked PowerStrength because it catered to adults over 40—which is me. I think the final straw was just me kind of being fed up with myself, but just wanting something different, feeling better about myself, mentally as well as physically. And just seeing her results and the excitement she had, I think that sold me.”
AMY TRANSFORMS
But it wasn’t just about weight loss. Over time, Amy discovered that strength training gave her confidence and a sense of accomplishment.
“I’ve lost approximately 35 pounds, inches from my waist, and gained more muscle than I ever thought possible. Now, I know I can do really hard things, and that confidence carries over into my everyday life.”
Amy has found at PowerStrength something that eluded her in her previous fitness endeavors.
“Discipline, accountability,” she said. “The coaches and trainers are always asking questions. ‘How’s it going? Where are you at? Where were you?’ If you don’t show up.”
SHARE THE GYM YOU LOVE WITH THE ONE YOU LOVE
Jason watched Amy’s progress with admiration, but it wasn’t until Valentine’s Day that he decided to join her.
“They gave her a session where we could train together, and it was an eye-opener. I realized how out of shape I was. I started with really expectations of losing weight, but really what it boiled down to was I really started finding strength.”
DISCOVERING THE BENEFIT
Jason had tried multiple avenues to get his health under control.
“I was walking and I lost maybe 30 pounds,” he recalled. “But still, when I saw myself in the mirror, I’m like, ‘man, you are out of shape, buddy. You are not good.’ All the while I’m seeing her make gains, and so the thing I was missing was the discipline and really direction.”
He used to workout on his own and admitted that he would go really hard with nothing to show for it.
“I worked out hard five days a week and I never saw results like I’ve seen here in the last nine months, because I was just relying on my own understanding of what working out was. I was doing the same 4 or 5 things, I wasn’t seeing gains, and eventually that just leads to frustration and you quit and then you go even further backwards.”
Though initially hesitant about the cost of PowerStrength, Jason quickly saw the value.
“Once I got here, the coaching made it so easy to show up and just do the work. I’ve seen results in nine months that I never saw in years at the YMCA because I didn’t have the direction or accountability that I get here.”
At PowerStrength, Jason has found the discipline and direction he never had, and it has been a gamechanger in his fitness journey.
“I’m really good at following directions,” he said. “I like building Legos because there is a thing of instructions there for me to follow, and I can follow instructions. When I came to the gym, it helped me get direction.”
For Jason, fitness has been about more than a physical transformation.
“I work from home, so when I see people I haven’t seen in months, they ask, ‘What’s going on?’ That feels really good when other people notice it.”
FOCUS ON NUTRITION
Both Jason and Amy have embraced the PowerStrength lifestyle, including a focus on nutrition.
“I eat more protein and avoid added sugar,” Amy shared. Jason added, “The PowerStrength diet for me is protein and water. It’s made me vitally aware of what I’m eating and drinking.”
TIME TOGETHER
Training together has strengthened their relationship, too.
“It’s great because we can encourage each other,” Amy said. “When we leave, we vent about how tough the workout was or laugh about how mean the coaches were.”
Jason shared how working out with Amy motivates him.
“She’s lifting 70 pounds, and I’m over here with my little 40-pound weight, thinking, ‘I’ve got to up my game.’ It’s so much fun, like a mini-date every time we train.”
Jason can see that Amy feels better both mentally and physically.
”I’ve seen such a change in her confidence,” he said. “She feels better about the way she looks in her clothes. She feels better the way she interacts with people. I’ve also seen her in the gym, be a little bit of a leader, she’s encouraging to others, she’s more social.”
EMPOWERING ENVIRONMENT
For the Jippings, PowerStrength is more than a gym—it’s a community.
“When I walk in, I know the coaches are invested in my success,” Jason said. “Everybody just pushes you. You see the gains and not just that they’re pushing you physically, but they’re encouraging you. They’re showing you the right way to do things.”
“It feels like a big family,” Amy added. “New people don’t get lost in the shuffle, you can put a name to that face and encourage them.”
Jason and Amy’s story is a testament to the transformative power of strength training—not just for the body, but for the mind, relationships, and overall quality of life.
