Wayland’s Madi Ludema Earns Her Spot at GVSU

4 years ago, Madi Ludema set a goal for herself — to play college softball. She found the perfect place to chase it at PowerStrength Training Systems. She made that goal clear to her coaches from the outset, and together they developed a plan to help her achieve it.

As a result, she’s grown stronger, faster, and more confident every year.

Now, as a senior at Wayland High School and a Grand Valley State softball commit, Madi can proudly say she’s achieved what she set out to do.

“My goals for PowerStrength were recruiting reasons,” Madi said. “I wanted to get myself to college, and letting the coaches here know that really helped push them to get me to college and get me to where I want to be.”

BUILDING STRENGTH, CONFIDENCE, AND POWER

When Madi began training, she immediately noticed the difference between PowerStrength and other fitness environments. The energy, structure, and attention to detail helped her grow as both an athlete and a person.

“It was a little stressful at first because I didn’t know anyone,” Madi said. “But everyone made me feel so welcome. The coaches were so nice and really pushed me to be my best.”

Over time, that push translated to major results on the field and court.
Her vertical jump improved – helping her in volleyball.
Her speed improved -helping her cover more ground.
Her strength skyrocketed – transforming her into a more powerful hitter at the plate.

“Since coming here, I’ve seen so many more power hits out of me,” Madi said. “Before PowerStrength, I was slower and couldn’t hit the ball as far. Now, my hitting, pitching, and running have all improved.”

TRAINING THAT TRANSLATES

Madi has experienced firsthand the PowerStrength difference.

“Here, it’s 100% all the time. You’re not allowed to get lazy here.”

She trains both at her school and at PowerStrength, using each to complement the other. Even during her volleyball and softball seasons, Madi continues to train at least once a week — something over 80% of PowerStrength athletes also do to maintain their performance year-round.

“Even if you come during the season, they’ll still do recovery stuff,” she explained. “And that’s sometimes what you need during a busy season.”

PREPARING FOR THE COLLEGE LEVEL

The consistency and intensity of her PowerStrength training have prepared Madi for what’s ahead at Grand Valley State.

“I think it has prepared me for the college-level workouts because there is no going 50%,” she said. “You have to be 100% all the time, and I think that’s going to prepare me for my college workouts.”

Her time in the gym has also sharpened her mindset.

“When I’m hitting in softball, my mental game is so much better because of my confidence from here. I know I have the strength and speed to hit the ball.”

A LIFELONG DREAM FULFILLED

For Madi, committing to Grand Valley State was more than just a recruiting milestone — it was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream.

“I’ve been wanting to go there since I was little,” she said. “Since I first stepped on campus, I got that feeling of ‘this is where I want to be.’ Their program, coaches, and players are all amazing and so welcoming.”

During her senior year, Madi’s focus is simple: enjoy the journey, keep improving, and stay ready for the next level.

“My goals for senior year are to have fun, keep improving, and keep preparing myself for college,” she said.

Her advice for others who want to follow a similar path?

“Come to PowerStrength. It’s amazing. The coaches are all so into it and want to help you get better. It’s just a great place to be.”

Madi is proof that when commitment meets the right coaching and environment, big dreams can become reality. Through years of consistency, effort, and belief, she’s built the strength and confidence to not only reach the college level — but to thrive when she gets there.
