John’s Journey: From Frustration to Transformation at PowerStrength

At 56 years old, John Palmer found himself in a cycle of unhealthy habits and apathy. A type 2 diabetic, he struggled to manage the condition despite being on medication.

This left him overwhelmed, feeling frustrated, and at times, hopeless.

“I’ve done everything the doctors have told me to do. Take the medication, take the drugs, and it just wasn’t working for me. I was extremely frustrated, I was at the point of giving up,” John shared. “The struggle with diabetes is knowing that you have it and you’re trying to manage it, but what you’re doing is not working and not having it under control is, for lack of a better word, it’s killing you.”

John decided to take a bold step forward. He joined PowerStrength’s Personal Training Program for adults in their 40s, 50s, and 60s.

Everything changed.

What began as an attempt to try something new turned into a life-altering transformation.

“I made the decision that there has to be a better way. There has to be a natural way to get this under control. And that’s where PowerStrength came in. And it’s really made a big difference.”

John experienced a dramatic lifestyle shift within just a few months of consistent training. His health improved and he began to find confidence in his new routine and outlook on managing his diabetes.

“The way I eat now and the way I am—it’s night and day,” he said. I feel better, I have more energy, I feel stronger.”

“The biggest thing that I think has helped is the strength training and the fact that they taught me how to eat right,” John said. “Lots of protein, lots of water, and stay away from processed foods. Those three things have made such a world of difference. And now that I’ve been doing this for a while, managing my diabetes, it’s easy. I don’t think about it anymore.”

By learning how to fuel his body properly and prioritize healthier lifestyle choices, he saw improvements that went far beyond what medication could achieve. 

“Last month my sugar was the lowest it’s been probably since I was diagnosed and my cholesterol was down and all of my numbers are looking fantastic. So it’s just a combination of consistently working out and eating well. I come here three times a week. It’s made a world of difference.”

His renewed focus on building muscle mass also made a significant impact.

“I think part of the benefit of all of this is not only do you feel better physically, but you feel better mentally. You feel more confident,” John explained. So when I walked into the doctor’s office, I just felt confident because I knew what I was doing. I looked better, I felt better, and I knew that when he ran my results, they were going to be good. He noticed immediately as soon as I walked in. He says, you look healthy. I was not the same person he saw three months before that and he could tell.”  


LIVING LIFE FULLY

For John, the benefits of training at PowerStrength extend beyond the gym.

Whether it’s spending quality time with family, tackling daily activities, or simply feeling confident in his body, John is embracing the life he once thought was out of reach.

“Overall, it’s helping me with everyday facets of my life. I just feel like physically when there’s something to be done that requires strength, I feel like I can do it and I don’t feel fatigued and lethargic like I used to.”

The increased strength and energy have allowed him to fully enjoy life again.

“I recently went on a five mile hike, and I don’t think I could have done it before PowerStrength,” John admitted. “I felt stronger. I felt confident, I do have asthma too, but I didn’t feel winded like I normally do.”
