Building Strength, Speed, and Confidence: Holland Football Trains Together at PowerStrength

This Summer, 16 members of the Holland High School Football Program committed to something different. The Dutch stepped into PowerStrength Training Systems in Holland for focused team training led by certified coaches. Every rep, every sprint, and every drill was watched closely, with one goal in mind — leave stronger, faster, and more confident than before.

For a program working to establish consistency, the investment was about much more than just lifting weights. It was about building habits, trust, and belief in what’s possible.

A DIFFERENT KIND OF TRAINING

Junior wide receiver/defensive back Andrew Andrlik admits he didn’t quite know what to expect at first.

“My initial thought was, it’s only an hour — that’s short,” he said. “But once you get here, you realize you couldn’t last more than an hour. Lifting together just brings a bond closer because you’re pushing yourself and able to push others. I didn’t really know what I was getting into, but it’s been great for us.”

What stood out most to Andrlik was the structure and intensity.

“Here, everything is structured. Everyone is locked in, and you see the results,he explained.

Those results, both in the gym and on the field, were easy to notice — faster cuts, higher jumps, and stronger finishes in Summer workouts and 7-on-7 competitions.

During his Summer training, Andrlik dropped his fully electric 10-yard sprint time by nearly a tenth of a second, added 10 inches to his board jump, and an inch and a half to his vertical.

CONFIDENCE THROUGH WORK

Sophomore quarterback Eli Wolters said the impact showed up almost immediately.

“The first day we tested, and then lifted for a half hour — I already felt like I was working crazy hard,” Wolters said. “Since then, I’ve seen huge improvements. Our wide receivers are more physical, and our linebackers and safeties are playing tougher. Personally, my arm strength is better, my running feels sturdier, and even my elbow problems have improved.”

Wolters dropped his 10-yard sprint by .16 seconds, added 7 reps to his max reps chin-up test, and 2 inches to his vertical.

The game-changer at PowerStrength, according to Wolters, is accountability.

“Here, we have a program and coaches who push us and keep us accountable. It helps us really excel. You can see the guys who are in here are pulling ahead, and that motivates everyone.”

MENTAL TOUGHNESS AND TEAM CHEMISTRY

For senior receiver/defensive back Tanner Kingery, the sessions were as much mental as physical.

“They push us really hard — and I think that’s the best thing about this place,” Kingery said. “It changed my mental toughness. Before, my body would say I can’t do one more rep. Now, my mind says, ‘I’ve got one more in me.’”

That shift, he said, translated directly onto the field.

“Everything feels smoother because it’s gotten us all a lot faster and stronger. Compared to last year, it’s a huge difference.”

Kingery is now much more explosive than when he came to PowerStrength, adding 10 inches to his broad jump, an inch and a half to his vertical, and dropping his 10-yard sprint by almost a tenth of a second.

YOUNG PLAYERS STEPPING UP

One of the most encouraging aspects of the Summer was seeing younger players take ownership. Several sophomores joined the training sessions, including Finn Galloway, a longtime PowerStrength athlete.

“I told the guys this is going to get them stronger, faster, more confident — and it’s going to build our chemistry,” Galloway said. “When you’re training with teammates, it’s a whole different atmosphere. And the results showed up. Testing numbers went way up for a lot of guys.”

Galloway had a strong Summer with the results to prove it, adding 11 reps to his max reps chin-up test, 17 inches to his broad jump, and 2 inches to his vertical.

Fellow sophomore Cole Owen really leveled up this Summer at PowerStrength, adding 13 inches to his broad jump and 2 and a half inches to his vertical jump.

LOOKING AHEAD

Last Fall, Holland finished with a winning record (5–4) for the first time since 2017. With many seniors from that team now graduated, expectations are high, but the roster looks different. The athletes who trained at PowerStrength this Summer believe their commitment will pay off through steady growth, improvement, and a stronger foundation for the program.

Andrlik summed it up best:

“We want to prove people wrong and set the expectation that this program can be good. Raise the bar a little.”

For Holland football, this Summer wasn’t just about getting stronger in the gym. It was about building belief — in themselves, in their teammates, and in what’s possible this Fall and beyond.
