Built for the Big Stage: KV Korenstra’s Game-Changing Off-Season

Grand Haven Junior, KV Korenstra, has always been fast, competitive, and willing to work. But after his sophomore year—where he saw varsity snaps without making a major impact—he knew he needed more.

More strength. More speed. More structure. More coaching. More accountability.

At the start of Summer 2025, he found exactly that at PowerStrength Holland.

“I started (PowerStrength) this year at the start of the summer,” KV said. Last year, I was on Varsity football as a sophomore. I was getting on the field, but I wasn’t doing anything special. After I did an entire summer of PowerStrength, I got a lot stronger, a lot faster, a lot more explosive.”

That transformation showed up immediately on the field.

KV became 1st Team All-Conference in one of Michigan’s most competitive football leagues, the OK-Red. His strength, speed, and confidence surged – and so did interest from college programs.

“I had a very good season. A lot of colleges have been reaching out, looking at me. So it’s helped a ton.”

A BREAKTHROUGH MOMENT

For KV, the turning point wasn’t a highlight he expected.

In a game against Grandville, he caught a screen pass and sprinted up the sideline when a defender came flying in for a hit.

“He tried to tackle me, and I just lowered my shoulder and ran right through him,” KV said. “That is the 1st time I had ever done that. I shocked myself. I was like, whoa, I didn’t even know I could do that.”

That play – unexpected and explosive – validated months of dedicated training.

THE POWERSTRENGTH DIFFERENCE

KV credits the coaching at PowerStrength for unlocking that edge.

“When I’m here, it feels like it’s just me and Caleb, and we’re just going back and forth. He tells me what to do. I do it to the best of my ability, and we just go back and forth.”

That one-on-one focus changed everything.

“Caleb is like, you got to do this, be more explosive at the bottom, coming up to the top. Just little things like that.”

It’s that level of precision—and the program built specifically for him—that accelerated KV’s progress.

STRONGER MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY

The physical benefits are obvious, but KV’s mental growth stands out just as much.

“No matter how tired I was, because of here, we lift very intensely all the time,” he said. “So I’ve gotten used to getting comfortable working hard and getting comfortable being out of my comfort zone.”

That shift now fuels his confidence every time he steps on the field.

“A lot more confident, because I know a lot of these kids in our conference are huge. They’re fast or explosive. Being able to get closer to that level makes me feel a lot more confident going on the field knowing I can make an impact.”

PREPARING FOR WHAT’S NEXT

KV’s older brother, Will, plays collegiate football at GVSU and trained at PowerStrength before college—a factor that heavily influenced KV’s decision to join the program.

“He said it was very good for preparing him mentally and physically for what the workouts in college would be like,” KV said. “That’s a big part of why I’m doing this as well.”

He is excited for what’s next.

Last Spring, KV finished 9th in the 100-meter dash at the State Finals as a Sophomore. With an off-season of detailed, consistent PowerStrength training, he’s aiming much higher this Spring.

When asked if he wishes he started sooner, KV didn’t hesitate.

“Yes, absolutely. Especially before my last track season, 100 percent.”

A TRAINING ENVIRONMENT BUILT FOR SUCCESS

For KV, the atmosphere inside PowerStrength is another difference-maker.

“It’s the music for me,” he said. “It helps me focus. And the people around me – encouraging me – letting me know I can do this.”

Every session is designed to make him better.

“Not only before I start the lift, but while I’m doing it, he (Caleb) makes sure I’m getting the most out of it that I can.”

WHAT POWERSTRENGTH MEANS TO HIM

When asked to finish the sentence “PowerStrength is…,” KV didn’t have to think long.

“Intense. PowerStrength is intense.”

That intensity turned him from a player blending in – to one standing out. From solid to explosive.

From promising to proven.

From average to All-Conference.

And with his Junior track season ahead—and college football opportunities beginning to open up—KV is on the rise.
