Cindy Finds Support, Strength, and Confidence in West Michigan

When Cindy Odom relocated from the Buffalo, New York area to West Michigan, she knew she wanted to get back into the gym. She had done personal and strength training before, but her past experiences left her hesitant.

“I think sometimes I was pushed beyond what I was ready for,” Cindy said. “It’s being physically ready, and it’s being mentally ready. If you haven’t been in a gym and somebody is expecting you to bench press 200 pounds right away, that can be discouraging. Here (at PowerStrength), you get the gradual support you need. It’s not about trying to get everybody to a certain level — it’s about helping you be your best self.”

That difference is exactly why Cindy has flourished in her first 4 months at PowerStrength.

A WELCOMING ENVIRONMENT

At first, Cindy thought PowerStrength was just for athletes. Her husband drove past the Kentwood location, but she hesitated before reaching out.

“I knew I didn’t want a traditional gym,” she explained. “I wanted to make sure my form was right, and the exercises I was doing were appropriate for me.

Once she stepped through the doors, she quickly realized PowerStrength has Personal Training Programs for people in their 40s, 50s, and 60s of many different abilities. In fact, more than half of PowerStrength’s personal training members are over the age of 50.

“The atmosphere is very supportive,” Cindy shared. “You’re encouraged not to compete against other people, but to be your best self. When you’re training, people will walk by and say, ‘You can do this’ or ‘You’ve got this.’ It’s a supportive environment from the trainers and the other members.”

STRENGTH, HEALTH, AND ENERGY

In just a few months, Cindy has noticed big changes — not just in how she looks, but in how she feels every day.

“I see better toning, more strength, more confidence,” Cindy said. “My numbers are better, I’m losing fat, gaining muscle, and I feel energized every day. What I could do when I first came in, compared to now, is a tremendous difference. I feel healthier.”

Her newfound confidence derives from the progress she has made through hard work and dedication.

“I can tell you that what I could do when I first came in versus what I could do now is a tremendous difference,” Cindy said. “Now I can use weights and increase the amount of weight I’m using because I’ve grown stronger through coming here. I see my own growth here.”

That progress has carried over into her life at home.

“My husband and son notice the changes in me — the weight loss, how my clothes fit, even my attitude toward eating and nutrition. They see I’m happier with the progress I’m making here.”

THE RIGHT FIT

For Cindy, the biggest difference is the support and consistency she’s found at PowerStrength.

Instead of feeling like she’s being pushed too hard, she feels guided and encouraged every step of the way.

“If you’re serious about getting in your best shape and health, PowerStrength is the place to go,” Cindy said. “They partner with you. They support you through the process.”

She also encourages others not to let age hold them back.

“Don’t worry about your age — it’s not about that,” she explained. “You see people at different ages and stages, people with different abilities. They’re working with people individually at the level that they’re at to make sure that they are successful.”

“A HEALTHY PATH FORWARD”

Today, Cindy is stronger, more confident, and more energized than she was when she first stepped into PowerStrength, and excited about where she is headed.

“I see people older than me doing more than what I’m capable of doing at this point. That’s encouraging to me, because that shows me that if I continue with this, I will also do better and progress with my strength training.”

For her, it’s not just about the workouts — it’s about the community, the encouragement, and the belief that ‘Better Never Stops.’

“This is a healthy path forward,” Cindy said. “I want to come here because I see the benefit. When you see people of all ages working out and doing their best, it shows you not to quit — just keep going.
