When head coach Ryan Campbell took over the Aquinas College Women’s Volleyball program seven years ago, he made one thing clear from the start: his team would train at PowerStrength in the off-season.
The results on the court have been hard to argue with.
Over that span, the Saints have won more than 76% of their games in the WHAC. They haven’t lost a regular season conference game in the last 2 years, and have won back-to-back conference tournament championships.
“I think there are three aspects to the game,” Junior Outside Hitter Michelle Domey said. “Skill, athleticism, and the mental part. You can have the skill and the mental part, but that strength piece is a really key part of the game.”
The Saints have been the most dominant program in the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference over the past seven years — and they’ll tell you that PowerStrength is a big reason why.
Training twice per week all off-season at PowerStrength’s 12,000 square-foot. facility in Kentwood, the team works through a specific program, targeting the exact demands of a college volleyball player and emphasizing vertical jump, shoulder strength, lateral speed, and injury prevention.

RESULTS THAT MATTER
The team entered this off-season after a stellar 2025 season. And they only got more explosive, stronger, more athletic.
On average the team gained 2.39 inches on their approach jumps, gained 2.28 inches on the block jump, dropped their shuttle time by .09 seconds, and added nearly 2 reps to their max-rep chin-up test.
Sophomore Outside/Middle Hitter Jayla Martin added 4.5 inches to her approach jump, 3.5 inches to her block jump, and 6 reps to her chin-up test.
Domey added 3 inches to both her approach and block jumps.

Freshman Middle Hitter Kate Schneider added 3 inches to her block jump and dropped her shuttle time by .22 seconds.
Junior Outside Hitter Tess Griffith increased her block jump by 3 inches, Sophomore Defensive Specialist Sarah Curtis added 7 reps to her chin-up test, and Freshman Outside Hitter Sophie Munch dropped .16 seconds off her shuttle time.
The players feel these results translate directly to the court.
“That muscle growth and feeling stronger allows you to be faster and jump higher,” Domey said. “It’s very beneficial to be able to jump high, hit hard, and move fast. Those aspects of the game, PowerStrength and these workouts help with.”
“The jumps and decision making and the things we do here helps with being quicker to the ball and making quicker movements,” Curtis added.
BUILT FOR YOU
What makes the program work isn’t just the equipment and the space — it’s the adaptability, and expert guidance from Skyler Davis, PowerStrength’s Director of Training.
Domey tore her ACL her freshman year and came to PowerStrength uncertain of what she could do. The program was adjusted for her to keep her progressing through her recovery.

Sarah Curtis dealt with a foot fracture and found that targeted upper body and balance work kept her from losing ground.
“I feel like my legs felt way stronger,” Curtis said. “I didn’t lose growth — I didn’t feel like I was weak.”
The benefits extend beyond the physical.
Both players pointed to the mental edge that PowerStrength builds — the same grit required to push through a tough lift translates directly to staying composed on the court.
“If you miss a lift, you come back and get the next one,” Curtis said. “It’s exactly like volleyball — you move on.”
WHERE TEAMMATES BECOME A TEAM
There’s a team bonding element too. Training together twice a week all off-season keeps the Saints connected and competitive with each other in a way that carries over when the season begins.
“The ability to come in with one goal together — just growth — bonds the team in a way that sometimes practice doesn’t,” Domey said.

Coach Campbell has been sending his teams to PowerStrength for over 14 years — first at Cornerstone University, now at Aquinas.
“Working with PowerStrength, they make it so fun for the girls,” Campbell said. “They’re getting stronger, getting faster, and getting more mentally tough — all while having a blast.”
