Strength and Confidence: Will Orme’s Secret to Becoming a 2-Sport All-State Athlete

As a Sophomore at Calvin Christian High School, Will Orme was a Varsity basketball player who weighed 155 pounds. He was an excellent shooter, but something was missing. After that season, he knew he needed to make some changes to take his game to the next level.

“The reason I came to PowerStrength was because I wanted to grow in the sports that I played,” Will said. “I was pretty small, and I wanted to quit getting bumped around at the high school level. Varsity is a whole different level than freshman or JV, and I realized that my Sophomore year.”

That realization became the turning point. Will committed himself to training at PowerStrength that Summer, determined to add strength, size, and confidence to his game.

BUILDING STRENGTH TO COMPETE

Through months of focused training under the guidance of certified PowerStrength coaches, Will gained 20 pounds of muscle, jumping from 155 to 175 pounds. That physical transformation was quickly evident on the court.

“Coaches could tell a difference,” Will said. They said I was playing more physically. Not just scoring, but rebounding and defending too. I’m not scared to get up there and get physical with guys anymore.”

As a Sophomore, Will was known primarily as a perimeter shooter—a role player who stretched the floor. But his work at PowerStrength opened up a whole new dimension to his game.

“I had a talk with my coach after that season, and he told me the best thing I could do was get in the weight room,” Will said. “He wanted me to become more physical so I could drive, rebound, and lead the team.”

CONFIDENCE ACROSS SPORTS

The results speak for themselves. As a Junior, Will was named All-State in both basketball and golf—a rare and impressive achievement. He was 1 of 4 PowerStrength athletes who earned All-State Honors in multiple sports.

“I don’t think I could have been able to do that without PowerStrength,” Will said. “Before PowerStrength, I didn’t lift much at all. It can be intimidating, but the coaches were awesome—they guided me through everything and showed me the correct form.”

That newfound strength didn’t just change how he played basketball—it completely transformed his golf game as well.

“My drives used to go maybe 260 or 270 yards,” Will said. “Now I’m hitting them 300 to 320 almost every time. PowerStrength gave me more balance, stability, and consistency. I don’t hit as many bad shots because of the core and stability work we do.”

A NEW LEVEL OF BELIEF

Beyond the physical gains, Will says the biggest change has been mental.

“A big part of my game was just 3-point shooting and trying to avoid the physical part of the sport,” Will admitted. Getting bigger has just made it a whole new game. It’s not even close to the same. Going from timid and being scared to get in there and rebound to now, I see that when I do go in, I don’t get bumped around as much, but I’m doing the bumping. When I see players from other schools who are my size, I know I can compete with them. That confidence changes everything.”

That confidence carried into the AAU circuit last Summer, where Will competed for West Michigan Drive against top players from across the Midwest.

“If I wasn’t coming to PowerStrength, I don’t think I’d be able to compete at that level,” he said. “It’s the next step if you want to be serious about sports.”

A BRIGHT FUTURE AHEAD

Will is still working hard at PowerStrength. Now, in his Senior year, he finds himself in an exciting position—deciding not if he’ll play sports in college, but which one. He may even have the opportunity to compete in both at the next level.

“I’d say PowerStrength is the next step to success,” he said. “If there’s anybody out there stuck in a spot, I’d tell them to start lifting. Whether it’s balance, stability, speed, or strength—it all comes from lifting. PowerStrength has helped me take that next step.”

In just over a year, Will has gone from being an undersized perimeter player to a 2-sport All-State athlete ready for college competition—all through commitment, consistency, and the support of PowerStrength’s expert coaching.
