When Spencer Holstege first walked through the doors of PowerStrength Training Systems as a sophomore at South Christian High School in 2017, he was a 250-pound lineman with big dreams and the work ethic to match. Fast forward to 2025, and Holstege is now a 6’4”, 320-pound NFL prospect preparing for the next chapter in his football journey—one that was built on consistency, commitment, and a whole lot of sweat at PowerStrength.
“IT WAS DIFFERENT RIGHT AWAY”
“I was just used to training at school,” Spencer recalled. “But PowerStrength was different—better athletes, more structure, way more competitive. I liked it right away.”
That competitive environment made all the difference.
Surrounded by like-minded athletes from across West Michigan, Spencer thrived. He added 30 pounds of lean muscle, dropped body fat, and hit his college-ready goal of 280 pounds as he early-enrolled at Purdue University.
“It’s about being consistent with training,” he said. “Being intentional with my workouts and showing up all the time and it paid off.”
PowerStrength Owner, Mark Ehnis, remembers when Spencer first got started.
“Spencer’s potential was obvious from the beginning. But we chatted on showing up and being consistent for as long as it takes. Always a man of few words, but strong actions, Spencer kept showing up. He was a workhorse. He built strong habits and executed with tremendous consistency. Look at what he’s been able to accomplish in college with 56 starts. That’s incredible. His journey and what he’s been able to achieve has been truly inspiring, and one of the best I’ve been fortunate enough to witness. We’re all fans of Spencer and will always be rooting for him.”
TRAINING THAT TRANSLATES
Spencer’s transformation at PowerStrength set the stage for what came next.
By the time he graduated high school, Spencer had racked up 10 Division I offers and committed to Purdue University. From his first days on campus, he noticed something familiar.
“A lot of what we were doing at Purdue was similar to what I did at PowerStrength,” he said. “I wasn’t shocked by anything, which was great.”
After starting for 3 seasons at Purdue, Spencer transferred to UCLA where he continued his dominance, starting every game the last 2 years. His streak of 56 consecutive starts across two Power 4 conferences is a testament to not just his skill, but his durability.
“I’ve never been injured,” Spencer said. “I think strength training has played a huge role in that—keeping my muscles, joints, and ligaments strong.”
STILL SHOWING UP
Despite training under elite strength staffs at Purdue and UCLA, Spencer always came back to PowerStrength during college breaks.
“It’s a huge advantage,” he said. “Some guys take breaks when they’re home. I came back here to stay in shape and keep getting better. You can tell who’s been working when you show back up on campus—and I always had an edge.”
Even now, with his college career wrapped up and NFL opportunities on the horizon, Spencer continues to train at PowerStrength while he awaits his shot at the league.
“I know that it works,” Spencer said. “I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for PowerStrength, it helped me get to college, and then obviously, continue to grow throughout college as well, and now being able to try to go to the NFL.”
BUILT FOR THE NEXT LEVEL
Spencer’s strength, experience, and football IQ make him a strong candidate to play in the NFL. He knows what he brings to the table.
At his NFL Pro Day, Spencer did 33 reps on the 225-pound bench press test. That would have tied him for the best at this year’s NFL combine.
“Strength is definitely one of my biggest assets, knowledge, I have over 50 starts, I have a lot of experience.”
The NFL has been a goal since his junior year of high school. Now, that dream is within reach.
“I’m excited for what’s to come,” Spencer said.
A MESSAGE TO THE ‘NEXT SPENCER’
For any high school athlete debating whether the investment in PowerStrength is worth it, Spencer doesn’t hesitate:
“I would say it’s worth it for sure. PowerStrength will get you to what you want to achieve in high school and possibly beyond, if you’re looking to go to the next level.”
“A lot of the workouts here translate well to college because you’re doing the same type of stuff. If you continue to work, you’ll get ahead, it’ll pay off.”
Spencer’s story is proof that when talent meets intentional training, great things happen.
From a high school sophomore to an NFL hopeful, Spencer’s path has been forged with grit, drive, and a whole lot of work—much of it under the roof at PowerStrength.
And he’s not done yet.
