Carl Myers of West Catholic (Jr.) took 1st in the state for shot put and 3rd in discus at the state track meet. We are very proud of his accomplishments and his ability to overcome the uncontrollables. Carl won by half of an inch on a rainy, windy, and chilly day.
The conditions weren’t perfect, but his laser focus, preparation, and desire to win got the job done. He is coachable and applies everything he learns. Carl has trained with us for a year and a half and continued to train throughout his season. He was the strongest when it mattered and took care of his body. I guarantee you the 2nd place finisher didn’t do all the little things like Carl did the last 18 months. All these added up to a 1st place victory, and Carl will tell you the sacrifice and discipline was worth every second.
Carl has won back-to-back state football titles and is a key member of the unit going for a third this season. He is on the recruiting trail this summer for football, and he takes his academics just as seriously. Carl knew he had a big summer coming up and was going to have to perform at his best. Training in season kept him feeling good while still making athletic progress. When track season ended he wasn’t weaker or less explosive, which allowed him to get right back into football mode and compete at a high level.
“Carol” is a PSTS mainstay and one of the best characters we have in the gym. He will have a bright future wherever he ends up.
