Mason Conklin had seen others elevate their game and transform at PowerStrength. Finally, the Sparta High School junior was able to convince his parents to send him to West Michigan’s top training facility.
Conklin plays 3 sports for the Spartans: football, basketball, and this spring joining the track team for the first time. He started at PowerStrength’s Alpine location, 1 of 4 in West Michigan, following his junior football season, and had specific goals in mind.
“When I came here I wanted to increase my vertical, increase my speed, and increase my overall strength.” Conklin said.
PowerStrength works with each athlete to design a plan specific to their needs and goals. Mason displayed tremendous commitment and dedication from the start and saw immediate results.
“Gaining a lot of confidence in myself and seeing 20 plus pounds of muscle go straight on, it is really encouraging and helps you hit your goals,” Conklin said.
Mason was in-season for basketball soon after starting his training program. When asked if he felt a difference on the court, he said:
“Oh yeah definitely, I felt like I had a quicker step on everybody.”
Despite being a key member of Sparta’s varsity basketball team, Mason maintained his training at PowerStrength training 2 sessions per week all winter long – never missing a session as he worked toward his goals.
“It’s really important to get those workouts even when you are in-season,” Conklin said, “because these workouts are what helps you succeed on the field.”
Mason’s work and dedicated paid off as he just earned with the PowerStrength Athlete of the Month award at PowerStrength Alpine.
BIG RESULTS
It’s no surprise that he was making incredible early progress, his upper body strength has increased greatly. His speed and power outputs are also very noticeable as he dropped his fully electronic 10-yard sprint, added 6.5 inches to his broad jump, and added 2 inches to his vertical. While gaining nearly 30lbs, these metric improvements are incredible.
“I thought I was strong when I came into PowerStrength, but once I came to PowerStrength it unlocked a new potential that I didn’t realize I could attain,” Conklin said.
Mason was a first team All-Conference performer on the football field as a junior at linebacker, defensive end, and tight end. He played at 175 pounds last fall, in just 5 months at PowerStrength he has added 28 pounds to his frame.
“I feel like with all that weight, speed, and strength I’m gaining, I’m definitely going to be able to thrive even more on the football field,” Conklin said.
“My goal was 205 and I am almost there so now I have to set a new goal.”
He has followed PowerStrength’s proven methods of hard work in the gym coupled with dialing in nutrition, hydration, sleep, and recovery to optimize results.
“I realized that I was definitely not eating enough food and that has helped also feel better when I’m performing on the field, sleep is super important and drinking a lot of water.,” Conklin said. “I’ve also started taking creatine once I came to PowerStrength and that has shown great improvement for me.”
GOING NEXT LEVEL WITH PREMIER
Mason has done so well in the gym that he was offered a spot in PowerStrength’s invitation-only spring Premier Advanced Training program. Being around others who are extremely serious about their training has only helped him take his game to new heights.
“The environment overall,” Conklin said about the difference he sees at PowerStrength. “When you have like-minded people working out with you, high energy, it’s a great place to come work out.”
A NEW SPORT
Since basketball season ended, he’s been training at PowerStrength 3 sessions each week, all while being participating in a sport season as part of the Sparta track and field team. His PowerStrength sessions have helped ease his transition into a new sport.
“We work on running form and we work on sprints (at PowerStrength), and I feel like that has definitely helped for sure in those events,” Conklin said.
CONFIDENCE BOOST
Mason is pumped about his gains in weight, strength, and speed, but he has also developed in another area of his game that was a little more unexpected – his confidence has through the roof as a result of reaching his goals.
“You put in all this work and you know that it’s going to help you out,” Conklin said, “and when you look at your opponent you know that you are about to dominate this kid.”
Mason has set his sights high for the future, he wants to play football at the college level. With a big summer ahead of him before his senior season on the gridiron, he plans to keep the pedal down at PowerStrength to make his dream a reality.
“Hopefully keep gaining more strength, more speed, and keep on adding size onto me.”
Mason is now living what he has seen so many kids before him do. After being part of the PSTS Army this past year, he is convinced he made the right decision, and knows that many more will do the same.
“Personally I’ve seen so much growth from PowerStrength,” Conklin said. “I believe they will see the same growth. If they believe in themselves and they want something, they can come to PowerStrength to get what they want.”
